Obscure music enthusiast, vintage road cycle collector; father of 2 sons (1 human, 1 canine); The Other Andrew
Complemented by more than 14 years of structural design experience, Andrew’s talent lies in his collaborative approach to teamwork and project delivery. Mindful of the diverse requirements of our clients and project participants, Andrew seeks to achieve efficient and elegant structural design as one part of the total project solution while facilitating a fun experience for all involved. His methods prioritize high quality, durable, sustainable, and resilient outcomes; an approach that requires holistic appreciation of all design disciplines, construction considerations, and the overall context of the project.
A rare specimen of born-bred-and-still-lives-here Vancouverite, Andrew completed his Bachelor and Master’s degrees in structural engineering at UBC and earned his chops at two of Vancouver’s longest-established structural engineering firms. His project portfolio includes grade school, post-secondary, healthcare, recreation, transportation, residential, and commercial facilities, as well as public artwork, heritage conservation, and seismic evaluations and upgrades of existing buildings. Experienced in all structural materials, he has passions for structural steel design and seismic engineering.
Andrew is motivated to identify and maximize the societal value proposition offered by each of his projects. He is an active contributor to the local structural engineering scene: a past President of the Vancouver Structural Engineers Group Society and a contributing founder of the Structural Engineers Association of BC where he continues to serve as Director. He is a member of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute and is actively engaged with initiatives related to community seismic resilience and post-earthquake recovery.
In his role as Associate at Aspect, Andrew contributes to the continual improvement of the firm’s technical and quality standards, and enthusiastically provides mentorship to our up-and-coming rockstars. The latter is fitting given his real-world exposure to rockstardom (almost), having performed bass, keys, and weird dance moves on the stages of ballrooms, basements, and bars across Canada during the synth-fuelled indie dance-rock craze of the mid-2000’s.
