From an early age, Amir had an interest in the design of everyday objects and how they are crafted. This interest led him to pursue the study of architecture at The Cooper Union in New York City, followed by the Yale School of Architecture in New Haven, Connecticut. Since then, he has been working in architecture, design, and construction, contributing to projects around the world. From art galleries to complex urban developments, Amir’s design strategies and programming solutions have resulted in beautiful and functional buildings and spaces for more than 15 years.
A few years into his career, Amir had the opportunity to lead a cutting-edge team on a model project that demonstrated the potential of mass timber. This ten-storey model project – 475 West 18th – was the first tall building proposed for New York City using modern wood systems, and the speculative project ultimately received the US Tall Wood Building Prize. Since then, Amir has been hooked on timber structures, and has led the design of several such structures across North America. To date, he continues to extend his knowledge of mass timber, particularly how it integrates with other off-site manufacturing streams and methods of prefabrication (which just so happens to be the focus of his role as part of the ASPECT team). Overseeing the ASPECT prefabrication portfolio, Amir provides leadership and project management to the growing list of projects leveraging prefabricated elements and assemblies.
When he’s not busy thinking about mass timber, Amir is usually out riding one of his many bikes, or dreaming up new speaker cabinet designs that use back-loaded horns.
