Senior Structural Designer | M.Eng, C.Eng, M.IStructE
Food Appreciator, Environment Advocate, Outdoors Enthusiast
A graduate of the University of Strathclyde with a Master’s in Structural & Architectural Engineering, Andrew brings nearly a decade of experience to the ASPECT team. He is passionate about sustainability, often working on adaptive reuse projects to breath new life into existing structures and maximize the potential of what’s already in our built environments. His expertise in parametric design also allows him to go beyond the realm of complex geometry to deliver efficient, sustainability-focussed structures across varying building typologies.
Growing up near Edinburgh, Andrew spent time in Glasgow before moving to London, where he honed his skills in the industry. A few years later, he made the decision to settle in Vancouver — an adventure that’s proven to be, as he put it, “one of the best decisions of his life”. It’s no surprise that when he’s not working on structural designs, you’ll find him outdoors — skiing in winter, hiking or climbing in summer, and always with a great appreciation for the local food and drink scene.
Notable career achievements include winning the 2022 IStructE Kenneth Severn Award for his essay “Learning to tackle the climate emergency through material & reuse”, which was published in The Structural Engineer. Andrew also developed an algorithm to optimize steel reuse in buildings, maximizing recovery rates through refabrication processes and optimizing placement within the proposed structure.
He joins ASPECT with a vision of pushing the boundaries of structural design and sustainability, excited by the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded innovators to transform our built environment.
