Grindelwald, Switzerland
Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Eiger North Face and the Wetterhorn, this round, mass timber, ski bar offers the perfect outdoor respite in all seasons. Located in the mountain village of Gridelwald — known for winter skiing and summer hiking, Bar Brandegg sits beside the Brandegg Restaurant and serves as a welcoming stop for visitors and tourists. The bar’s primary structure features glulam frames forming a 12-sided circular layout. The frames are connected at junction points with the use of steel elements, and the roof slab and frames provide overall bracing. To absorb the torsion, the transoms above the doors and windows are designed as rigid frames. ASPECT provided Mass Timber Specialty Engineering and Fabrication Design services, completing structural analyses and timber construction engineering to support the design and functionality of this bar.
