The CedarStone CLT Tiny Homes are innovative Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) designed as a sustainable and affordable alternative housing solution, intended to be built across Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. Utilizing repeatable building typology and prefabricated design, these small but impressive mass timber structures are prefabricated in volumetric modules and brought to a site already assembled. The homes are comprised of CLT floors, walls, and roof, and are beautifully designed with their sloped roofs, overhangs, and skylights.
ASPECT is engaged as the structural Engineer of Record providing Structural Engineering to design for quality and constructability, as well as System Development for efficient repeatability. Our team considered the customization of the units, keeping the design broad to envelope the general climate, seismic, and geotechnical requirements to meet the possible conditions and building codes of the various regions.
Working directly with the design-builder, CedarStone, ASPECT supported the fabrication and assembly of the prototype model that was created for the International Mass Timber Conference in 2025. The use of a volumetric system for the prototype provided insights for system refinement and optimization, paving the way for future iterations to be adapted for a variety of environments.
