Vancouver, BC
The Chia Residence is a high-end custom family home, and an excellent example of sustainability. It is two-storeys above-grade, with a below-grade basement and is located in the Point Grey area of Vancouver. This home is comprised of cross-laminated timber (CLT), with a suspended slab on the main floor. Design features of the structure include an extensive clerestory transfer system, an angular upper roof structure, and slender, cantilevered roof overhangs.
ASPECT is the structural Engineer of Record for this beautiful custom home. After completing the design process, ASPECT provided a high level of fabrication design through detailing and coordination, delivering a complete CLT panel shop drawing set. The team also provided input on site logistics, such as optimal crane positioning to accommodate the tight sight, a drawing package dedicated to site installation (with step-by-step erection sequencing instructions), as well as engineered lifting drawings for the installation of the CLT panels. The ASPECT team provided hands-on collaboration with a number of suppliers to support this project.
