Allston, MA
The David Rubenstein Treehouse is a three-storey, convention centre located on the Harvard University Allston campus, with a mezzanine as well as a basement level. The building features multi-use gathering spaces and a public ground floor, and is designed to hold a multitude of events.
Reminiscent of a branching tree, the mass timber structure of this building is comprised of cross-laminated timber (CLT) floors and roof, with an exposed post and beam interior glulam structure. This structure features complex geometry in order to express the unique architecture, with multiple members, for example, converging into a single point. The building adheres to Harvard’s “Healthier Building” sustainability and wellness standards, addressing overall human and environmental well-being. ASPECT is providing Design Assist, Mass Timber Specialty Engineering, and Temporary Works Engineering services for this project, in partnership with our client South County Post & Beam the project’s Specialty Timber Fabricator.
