Project Engineer | EIT, B.A.Sc.
Dog dad, amateur disc golfer, Gulf Islander, perpetual renovator, seasoned IPA drinker.
Joe has always had a curiosity for design and architectural spaces, drawing cut sections of tree forts, and interior layouts for his bedroom at a young age. Joe took this passion, inspired by his grandfather who was an architectural drafter in his own career, into structural engineering. He graduated from UBC Okanagan in 2016 with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a focus in Structural Engineering courses. As a true glutton for punishment, Joe continued his creative passions with enrollment in fine arts courses above and beyond the standard engineering courseload.
Before joining the Aspect team, Joe worked in Victoria B.C. as a structural designer and project engineer for over 7 years, working on a variety of projects ranging from 3-6 storey midrise multi-family and multi-use buildings, residential and commercial renovations, and high-end custom houses. In these projects, he picked up valuable experience designing structures in multiple construction types, and working closely with clients and contractors from preliminary design through to construction administration. Joe is looking forward to bringing his design interests to the Aspect team through collaborative problem solving and projects that express structure through architectural detail.
When he is not in the office, or on a ferry, Joe can be found slowing life down at his family home on Pender Island. He is likely unwinding with a beer and his dogs Elsa and Obie on the disc golf course, or daydreaming and sketching out renovation ideas for the house. Joe’s Papa once told him that any good idea he ever had in architecture, an engineer told him “no” – Joe strives to always answer with “Let’s see how we can.”
