Senior Structural Designer | M.Eng.
Recipe rebel, Social butterfly, Fun fact king, Doggo lover
Originally from Wellington, New Zealand, Matt studied Civil Engineering at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch. During his time at university, he experienced the 2011 Christchurch earthquake which set the tone for his expertise in seismic assessment and remediation. After kickstarting his career, he moved temporarily to London for four years to expand his learning and gain international experience.
Matt has worked in the industry for over 13 years, contributing to developments across commercial, education, government, and industrial sectors, and working with a wide range of materials. He enjoys working with others and problem solving for complex structural challenges and geometries, as seen through his time designing seismic resilient schools on poor ground conditions, conducting seismic risk reviews for nearly 50 buildings in the One NZ portfolio, and his extensive time working on large scale projects during construction. Beyond project delivery, Matt is passionate about the development of people and often helps engineers build their own confidence and capabilities.
In moving to Vancouver, Matt’s hometown hobbies won’t fall short – whether it’s riding his bike (with mandatory cafe and brewery pit stops), skiing and snowboarding, or adventuring through hikes and camping. He only really takes a break from the outdoors to spend a Sunday afternoon at the stovetop with some new creation.
