Nicolas completed his B.Eng in Civil Engineering from the University of Surrey (UK) in 2013. As part of his degree, he completed a 1-year structural engineering internship with Ove Arup in Hong Kong, which led to a full-time position. He gained valuable experience on projects including high-rise residential developments, airports, and the prestigious M+ museum of visual culture. He also developed a particular interest in steel design. After 3.5 years, he and his wife decided to move to his native Norway. Continuing in steel and concrete design, Nicolas learned how to use Tekla Structures and Revit to produce and deliver his own GA, detail, rebar and steel shop drawings. He was also part of multiple projects that delivered 3D rebar models as IFC directly to the contractor, removing the need for any 2D drawings. Concurrently, Nicolas was also making the transition into parenthood (the longest days, the shortest years) and in March 2020 he attempted to move his international family to Vancouver – and we all know what happened then! After re-establishing Norway as home base, he started at a small firm specializing in timber structures where he led the development of the BIM team, specializing in delivering 3D production models. Finally in March 2023, he and his family succeeded in their second attempt to move to Canada. He now looks forward to further developing his career with Aspect, particularly in timber design, and potentially inspiring a new generation of Engineer-Detailers.
While not sitting in front of three screens, Nicolas has a passion for woodworking, making music and painting. On the active side he enjoys long hikes (the steeper the better), rock climbing, trail running, yoga, breathing, meditating and spending time with his wife and two daughters.
