This distribution centre is a single-storey facility containing warehouse space, and will be Canada’s first mass timber building of this type. As a global leader in logistics real estate, Prologis’ first wood building has the potential to industrialize this sustainable structural approach. The building is designed to LEED® Silver certification, and will result in an estimated 24 per cent reduction in embodied carbon emissions over the entire building structure.

As the Engineer of Record for all mass timber components of the building, ASPECT is responsible for the glulam columns and roof design, including designing the connections. The roof is constructed with glulam beams and cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels, and the vertical-lateral system includes steel columns and bracing along the perimeter. As the project reached the tender phase, ASPECT was directly engaged by the mass timber supplier (Element5) to provide fabrication design. ASPECT is also working with Kinsol on the erection engineering as part of the temporary works package.
