Sam grew up just outside of London, UK, and attended the University of Bristol where he achieved his master’s in civil engineering. After graduating, Sam moved back to London for three years, although he probably spent just as much time in Ireland – with plenty of family here, he calls it his second home (awww!).
From summer internships spent on site, to experience gained in London after University, Sam brings knowledge about… and more importantly, a passion for… sustainable design. Sam has spent much of his time in the industry working on building serviceability analysis — particularly for sensitive spaces such as labs and hospitals — exploring how we can reduce embodied carbon in these commonly carbon intensive areas. Sam is also proud of his work developing design tools for one of the first timber-concrete composite floors to be used in a laboratory space.
His passion for impactful work and sustainable design is what *seemingly naturally* led him to join ASPECT in Vancouver. Sam’s “why” summed up: cool mass timber projects, a tight-knit team, and views of the mountains.
When he’s not at work, you’ll find Sam keeping himself busy with ALL types of different sports and activities. Coming from a background in gymnastics, Sam enjoys running, skiing, swimming, tennis… the list goes on… but he *may* still have some gymnastics tricks up his sleeve (“for when the time is right” apparently).
