As an experienced Human Resources professional of over 12 years, it’s hard to believe that Sarah’s career all started with attending school to pursue a career as a veterinarian. Yup, you heard that right. Unbeknownst to Sarah, her journey to becoming the ASPECT Director of Human Resources started by obtaining a Master of Science in Wild Animal Biology at the Royal Veterinary College in London (the UK one, not the Ontario one). Living in a trailer just outside of San Francisco, Sarah later completed a research project at the Marine Mammal Center about northern fur seals. It was *epic*, as Sarah likes to say. But the MOST epic part? This project triggered Sarah’s desire to move to the West Coast, and eventually resulted in her career pivot.
Fast forward to 2024, Sarah comes to ASPECT with 12+ years of experience in developing and driving human resources plans for purpose driven, people-centric companies. She’s excited to lead our team in setting the bar for diversity, equity, and inclusion within the engineering industry. If you ask Sarah what her definition of “good business” is, she would probably talk about creating a safe (yet fun) environment that allows people to feel connected to each other and their shared goals. The ASPECT team couldn’t agree more, which is why we’re so excited to have Sarah leading HR and recruitment initiatives that will continue to build upon our unique company culture.
We spend a large portion of our time at work, which is why Sarah thinks creating an enjoyable workplace is so important. BUT when she’s not at the office, you’ll likely find Sarah immersed in nature and ACTIVE. Her ideal weekend includes cycling to Horseshoe Bay, mountain climbing, swimming in the ocean, skiing in Whistler, AND (when her poor knees are hurting from all the adventure) some relaxing watercolor painting or knitting. You can never have too many knitted hats, right?!
