The expansion of the SEAPARC Leisure Complex was completed in 2020 and includes the addition of a new Fitness Centre to the existing structure using glulam framing, CLT walls, and roof. The expansion addresses the need for a fitness/gym facility and additional multi-purpose space, and enhances the diversity of programs and recreation opportunities offered by the complex with its ice arena and swimming pools. This project has increased the 4,739 square metre (51,000 square foot) footprint of the complex by 10%. Key structural design considerations were the seismic performance of the addition while not impacting the existing building – and vice versa. The design also features a new entrance canopy and plaza.
ASPECT was the Engineer of Record. We also provided all the mass timber specialty engineering under that scope.
