Born and raised in Dubai, Shlok came to Vancouver in 2017 for university and graduated from UBC in 2021 with a degree in Chemical and Biological Engineering. But Shlok’s story takes an unexpected turn – while his peers were knee-deep in beakers and lab reports, he found himself irresistibly drawn to the world of data, coding, and software. Turns out, engineering design teams weren’t just about formulas; they were also a playground for his newfound love for all things digital. This led him to pursue internships in software dev, and later data analysis, from where his love for data started.

Right after graduating, he worked as an Associate Software Developer at a tech consulting company. While looking for new roles more data focused, he joined ASPECT as a Data Specialist. Using his skills in Python, SQL, Excel, and Power BI, he can be seen spending too much time on creating aesthetically pleasing dashboards or trying to automate processes (because he is a bit lazy). His passion projects include combining data and analytics with his other hobbies, including sports and music. His dream job would be to work as a Data Analyst for Arsenal! Shlok plans to pursue a master’s in data science in the future, and to eventually dip his toes into the world of Machine Learning.

In his free time, he can be found at the gym, browsing record stores to add to his growing vinyl collection, watching anime, riding his recently purchased road cycle, playing football (soccer) on a cold & wet night, or listening to Boiler Room sets on YouTube.
