Structural Designer | M.Eng.
Swiss cheese lover, self-taught bike mechanic, yogi, cross-country skier
Simon’s interest for timber engineering grew during his B.Sc in Civil Engineering in Fribourg, Switzerland. To further enrich his knowledge in this field, he completed a M.Sc in Complex Timber Structures in 2021 at the University of Applied Science in Biel. Alongside his studies, he joined a structural timber engineering firm in Zürich. During his tenure there, he gained experience in the design and detailing of various structural systems with mass timber, light wood frame and concrete buildings. He contributed to a diverse array of projects, including multi-family residential, commercial, institutional as well as heritage building conversions. One of Simon’s particular areas of expertise lies in Timber-Concrete-Composite systems, a subject that bridges his two educational backgrounds.
In 2023, he embarked on a new chapter in his career by becoming part of the Aspect team in Vancouver. Here, he aspires to broaden his experience in lateral bracing systems and contribute to the development of innovative and efficient solutions.
In his spare time, Simon likes to plan his next bikepacking adventures, with a preference for mountainous areas in South America or central Asia. He never gets tired of modifying his bike (even if it doesn’t always make him faster) and loves discovering niche gems at the cinema.
