Violet’s Corner consists of five, three-level townhouse units with basement suites grouped around an intimate courtyard. The basement suites have their own entrances and patios, and provide rental income to promote affordability. The townhomes are constructed from conventional light wood framing over concrete foundation walls. In response to the sloping site, the townhomes step incrementally from one unit to the next, requiring special attention to the detailing of the stepped structural diaphragms. ASPECT incorporated continuous hold-down systems with shrinkage take-up devices in the wood shear walls to control seismic demands while accommodating the expected vertical shrinkage of the wood frame.
